Why are our workout goals always the toughest? We knew there had to be a way to make our fitness resolutions attainable. So we paired up with our friend Liz of Sequins & Stripes for a great workout, and brainstormed our favorite ways to keep ourselves on track.
Buddy up
Two reasons workout goals die faster than the characters on Game of Thrones? Boring workouts, and zero accountability! Pairing up with a buddy will help make any workout more fun, but most importantly–it’ll hold you accountable. Team up with someone who shares a common goal. Before you start out, write down what you plan to achieve, and share with each other. Bonus points if you meet every week to discuss your progress!
The more people you tell, the more you’ll feel like being a couch potato just isn’t an option.
Spice up your water
We’re aiming to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day! Plenty of fluids won’t just make you feel better, it’ll renew your skin, help control your calories, and rejuvenate those muscles you’ve been working so hard. Don’t be fooled, it’s not as easy as it sounds! Adding fresh fruits like citrus, berries, kiwi, and our favorite–cucumber–will help you knock back those extra glasses.
Download a goal-setting app
One of the best ways to accomplish your goals is to write them down! Luckily, there are apps out there that make staying on top of them that much easier! Whether you’re aiming to eat better, run more miles, or just be more active in general, you can track your progress with apps like Habit List, Human, and Breeze.
Set small, mini goals
Speaking of tracking goals, the best goals you can make for yourself are SMART ones. They’re not just for year-end meetings with your boss, they work for fitness too. Whatever you aim to achieve this year, make sure it’s Specific, Measurable,Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Try making smaller goals that ladder up to larger ones, which makes them less daunting and more attainable. You don’t run a marathon all at once, you run it a mile at a time! The same goes for goal setting. The biggest perk? You get to celebrate more often, too!
Invest in some new active wear
Never under estimate the power of a little retail therapy to get you motivated. Remember that time you bought that knockout party dress with no occasion in mind, yet you were determined to find somewhere to wear it? Purchasing new workout gear does the same thing. For those of us who are motivated by a new outfit (no judgment, we are too!) some new wardrobe staples–like Old Navy’s half-zip pullovers and compression capris–can go a long way to get your you-know-what in gear, without breaking your bank account.
Exercise and physical activity are a great way to feel better, gain health benefits and have fun. What tricks help you stick to your fitness resolutions?
