Are you planning on travelling cross-country this summer? And while the destination is almost always what’s on our minds when it comes to travelling, don’t break out your summer outfits just yet! Bear in mind that travelling, especially by plane, will also have you spending a considerable time waiting at airports (imagine waiting between flights, delayed flights and the likes).
Gone were the times you can go through the airport in your sweat pants or gym clothes, today’s fashionable society has turned airports into fashion runways! Celebrities, style icons and fashion bloggers alike can be seen looking wearing travel chic clothing, and remember Chanel’s airport themed runway fashion show for Spring/Summer 2016? All of that contributed to the upping of standards when it comes to airport fashion. So look out for fashion police at the airport!
Not to worry though, for here are tips to looking chic but still comfortable while you’re waiting at the airport:
Wear Flats
For your feet, being fashionable while travelling does not mean you have to sacrifice fashion for comfort. Trade in those heels and strappy shoes for the chic comfort of flats, because it’s just not practical if you have to stand in a long line at the check-in counter, or wait at the lounge wearing high heels! Give your feet some love! Besides, you’ll never know when you’re going to have to run through the airport to catch that flight!
Layer Up
It may be hot and humid outside come summer, but it doesn’t mean the temperature won’t fall! Most modern airports are air conditioned, and airplanes are definitely cold during flights, so it won’t do to wear thin, summer clothing for your travel time. And while it’s not practical to bring a thick, winter jacket just for your travel time, it’s safe to compromise by doing some chic layering.
Be fashionable with your favorite pants, tank top or tee, and sneakers or flats. Layer with a long cardigan or light jacket, and finish off your look with a chic scarf. The cardigan and scarf can be discarded while it’s hot, and worn when it gets cooler.
Minimize Your Jewelry
Sometimes, less is better. And that goes well for jewelry when you’re at the airport. Being fashionable doesn’t mean you need to pile up the bling just to enhance your ensemble! For one, it is not practical to wear a ton of jewelry at the airport. Chances are you’ll be taking all your jewelry off when going through those metal detectors, so it’s best to avoid wearing chunky, complicated jewelry that would take more than a few seconds to remove. You don’t want to be holding up a line now, would you?
Choose jewelry that can easily be removed, such as stacked bracelets/bangles or long necklaces that can go right over your head in one go. Not only are those the practical choice, they are always on the trends lists so you can be sure of being chic and sensible at the same time!
The key to staying chic and trendy while travelling and waiting at airports is to keep everything simple and sensible. There’s no sense in wearing outrageous or statement-making outfits in transit, save that for parties or your vacation destination. Being comfortable and practical while looking and staying stylish during your travel time will earn you more style points, believe us!
